Decency

At the very minimum, people think. People feel. They are real. They exist. They breath, but more importantly than breathing, they are human. They belong to the same great and grand organization that you do: the human race.

I do not know why we call humanity a race. It is not a race, nor a competition. It is cooperative, and we need to remember to help each other.

Of course we all have or had a roommate that is annoying, or turns the thermostat down when you want it warm. They think and feel too.

We need to treat people decently. Join the campaign for decency.

Brownies and Icecream

Here is a college student recipe:

  1. Get roommate to make brownies
  2. Put some brownie into bowl
  3. Warm up in microwave. (This assumes that the brownies are cold which probably indicates that they haven’t been around more than one or two other roommates otherwise they would be gone already).
  4. Put one to four scoops of icecream on top.
  5. Eat and enjoy.

I am so happy

I wanted to give a report about my feelings about life: happy. I’m just really lucky to have some friends who really care. I don’t feel judged, talked about behind my back, or used. I just feel like I have genuine friends, and that feels good, and it makes me happy.

I mean, I can’t even find the remote for my TV, and I’m still happy. That should really tell you how happy I really am.

Student rescued on Y mountain

Recently there was an article in the Daily Universe about a student who got lost on Y mountain, while “looking for clarity”. Y mountain is a funny place to get lost. Below is a view (click to see full image), from Google Earth, that shows what the view might have been like from about the lodation the student was lost.
View from y mount

Some of the quotes from the article were also funny, especially as the student described what got him through is trying time:

Three things kept me going: God, … my friends and family, and the fact that I was so hungry. … I have to get back and get Subway

This view from the Y was created with Google Earth. Google Earth is part of Google Pack, a free collection of essential software. You can download Google Pack by clicking here.

Above the search fold

I was looking at some web statistics today, specifically the list of things people type into search engines to get to my site. The following is a list of search terms where my blog is in the top several search results:

Curve ball

I have been reading some blogs recently. It got me thinking a little bit about life. Sometimes you keep your eye on the ball, only for it to curve right in front of you causing you to miss. Continue reading Curve ball…

I just noticed that with this post I will have set a new record for the number of posts in a particular month. This is the 26th post in the month of February 2006.

Victory cake

BYU beat San Diego State University tonight with a score of 100 to 90. Good defense and good shooting seemed to be the key to tonight’s win. The officiating seemed mediocre at best, but it didn’t seem too favored.

This was an important win, as it only puts us a game and a half out of the conference lead. We are just going to need some luck now that San Diego State looses their next games.

Only two more home games left in the season. I should start looking now for someone to go with me.

Confidence to staple

The Ensign is generally a good magazine. There was one article in the February 2006 issue that made me feel a little uncomfortable. It is found on pages 18-22. I stapled those pages shut, so they wouldn’t flip open and taunt needlessly.

Caching the blog

I installed the WP-Cache2 plugin today into my blogging software. This means that browsing my blog should be much faster. This means that you can drop by my blog homepage to see what is up in a lot less time. This means that you should be able to search and read articles much faster than before.

What I don’t know is if the cache for a page is updated when a new post is added to the page. I guess I’ll figure that out in a few moments when I publish this post.

Table row offsetTop bug in Safari

I found what seems to be a bug in the Safari web browser recently. The problem occurs when there is a table, and you are trying to find the offsetTop property of a row in that table. I have an example that illustrated the problem when in Safari.

Posts by day of week

I just put together a new graph which illustrates the number of posts per by day of the week. Nothing is terribly unusual, except that I have a few less posts on Saturdays.

Interlligence

My roommate got an email from BYU Career Placement Services which read:

Dear Student,

The Central Interlligence Agency and the National Security Agency announce a joint recruiting session for BYU students-from all colleges and departments.

Notice the spelling of the third word of the second line. He he, funny.
