I’ve never decided if the hamster wheel is a cruel or kind invention. On one hand, it keeps the otherwise inert hamster in shape. On the other, that hamster getting nowhere quickly. This LEGO elevator leaves me, again, floating in moral ambiguity. One one hand, it’s LEGO and a convenient elevator. On the other…well, just watch the clip.
Even though I’m graduated and moved away from BYU, I still enjoy reading Police Beat published in the daily school newspaper. Here are some of my favorites (with commentary) from this summer.
June 27 :
A radar detector worth $140 was stolen from the owner’s car in the Wymount Terrace parking lot. The owner claims the car was locked.
If this was your car, how would you explain to the police why you would even have a radar detector in the first place?

A dream dictionary claims the following about dreaming about a platypus:
To see a platypus in your dream, suggests your tendency to wallow and dwell on your emotions. It may also suggest that your repressed thoughts and unconscious material are slowly coming to the surface and making their presence known. Alternatively, it is indicative of shyness and reservation, especially in social situations.
It didn’t specifically mention the meaning of dreaming of exactly two platypi.
I came across this headline today:
Man accused in beating death appears in court
At my first read, I thought it was talking about a man that beat death. I was hoping the article could tell me how to do the same: beat death and live forever. If this man had allegedly beat death, what is he doing in court?
Upon second look, I realized that it was a death by beating that he was accused of. If he had actually beat death, the headline would have read: Man accused of beating death appears in court. What a difference one little word can make.
I saw this in a recent BYU Police Beat:
April 8: The father of a student called BYU police when he had not heard from his daughter for four days. BYU police called the student and told her to call her father.
Four days! What will happen to this father guy if the girl ever leaves on a mission for 18 months?
I thought this was very well done.
Today I was looking through a Safeway (grocery store) ad, and they had a little section in their multi-page ad titled,”Essentials.” I found some of the things there a little interesting. This is what Safeway considers essential:
I must be doing pretty bad because I’ve missed out on those essentials for quite a long time.
I found this line in my HP job offer which I found to be kind of overwhelming:
You will be working for the TSG ESS BCSD HSTD Staff Department in the Business Critical Server Divis (BCSD) Organization.
That acronym soup is worse than what I found working at Intel. Funny…. um, almost.
I was reading the Police Beat in today’s edition of The Daily Universe, and I saw this entry about a man who got his wallet stolen:
Nov. 5-6: A 26-year-old male reported his wallet stolen after using it at the Creamery on Ninth East. His driver’s license, an American Express card, two debit cards, two credit cards and two Victoria’s Secret gift cards were in the wallet when it was stolen.
Emphasis added.

With the football game this week, BYU is stepping up security on campus. You can help by keeping an eye out for Utes that may be wanting to vandalize campus. This joke may help you to identify a Ute on campus:

In honor of the Utah-BYU rivalry, here is a joke that I found:

My roommates were flipping through the channels and were watching a bit of CNN. Apparently they were taking questions via You-Tube, but when I walked by it was showing this movie thing of a dancing Larry King in underwear or something like that. I kind of thought it was a joke, until I heard the audio of Anderson Cooper (from the other room) seem apologetic about it.
Does anyone know what happened? Was it a prank or joke, and if so, from whom? Did CNN get hacked?
