OSCON 2007

by Jacob on Jul.26, 2007, under Technical

Well, OSCON 2007, the open source conference of the year, is over, and like two previous years, I walked through the exhibit hall and attended a few of the free lectures. I thought this years even wasn’t quite as great as last years even, but still pretty good.

Stuff that happens at 4am

by Jacob on Jul.24, 2007, under Adventures

Hiking the Y isn’t that great of a hike, but for some reason I hike it a lot. Twice in the last week. I hiked it on Friday at about 8am. It took me 28 minutes, which was less than the 30 minute goal I set for myself. I hiked it again today, reaching the Y at 3:25 am; hiking it at a more casual pace of 30 minutes. Hiking the Y in the middle of the night without a moon and without a flashlight can be kind of spooky, but I was surprised how lit up things were from the city lights from Provo down below.

Dancing Larry King

by Jacob on Jul.19, 2007, under Funny

My roommates were flipping through the channels and were watching a bit of CNN. Apparently they were taking questions via You-Tube, but when I walked by it was showing this movie thing of a dancing Larry King in underwear or something like that. I kind of thought it was a joke, until I heard the audio of Anderson Cooper (from the other room) seem apologetic about it.

Does anyone know what happened? Was it a prank or joke, and if so, from whom? Did CNN get hacked?

My top ten list of top ten lists

by Jacob on Jul.18, 2007, under General

It seems like every TV show, magazine, blog, newspaper, and mother’s journal needs a top ten list. Why are top ten lists so interesting? Perhaps it is because we are too lazy to study out an entire subject matter, and want someone to summarize the best of the best for us. Whatever the reasons for the top ten trends, here is a top ten list of top ten lists to celebrate:

10. Top 10 Deadliest Animals
9. The Top Ten Astronomy Images of 2006
8. The Top Ten US Killer Tornadoes
7. The Top Ten Lies of Entrepreneurs
6. Top 10 Strangest Lego Creations

A little note

by Jacob on Jul.17, 2007, under Religion

Last Sunday I taught Sunday School in church, and I taught about the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Later that day, I got this little anonymous note which read:

Um, I was in your lesson today, and I just wanted to tell you that something you said today changed my life.

Isn’t that what gospel teaching is about? Teaching the Gospel such that it helps people better themselves?
